Three Getty folios, 9 plates, 9 illustrations — and the plate numbers run [11]–[19], continuing the Spear section rather than restarting, because the two sections are one numbered run in the sources. The folios are not neighbors: 31r and 31v sit in the foot-combat material, while 46r is interpolated inside the Getty's mounted section, where every other witness files it too.
One question runs through all nine plates: what does a man do when the other man's weapon is longer? The answer never changes — take a low guard off the line ([Spear-Other 11]'s "almost the Full Iron Gate", [Spear-Other 17]'s Boar's Tooth), let him commit, beat and step in one pace, and finish inside his reach. What changes is only what is in the Master's hands: a staff and a dagger, two staffs and a dagger, a ghiavarina. Fiore says as much himself at [Spear-Other 17] — "what I do with the ghiavarina I would do with a staff and with a sword" — which makes the section a demonstration rather than a curriculum (Tactical grouping §9).
The witnesses split cleanly by function. The Getty alone carries the counters — both of 31v's, addressed to the loser after the fact — and alone carries [12], the one plate in the section spoken by the losing side, whose reversed-spear deception exists in no other copy. The Morgan keeps the Masters' statements and drops the plays that resolve them, condensing [11] into a different play in the process. The verse witnesses give the outcome and the boast, skip both [12] and [16], and reserve their expansion for Roland and Pulicane. And twice the images and the text disagree about which plate they belong to ([11]/[12], [16]/[17]) — the figures crowding forward onto the earlier number both times.
